Accessibility: Making it easier to get into the fair

Blue Badge parking is available and there is a drop-off point close to the green by the church and pub. We have a limited number of parking places for those that need them – so please respect this and only use these if you have a blue badge.
Drop off point
The drop off point is by the green opposite the Abinger Hatch. There is a tarmac path that goes to the lychgate, turn onto the field just before going through the lychgate. The map below shows the drop off point and it will be signposted. The image below shows a photo of the drop off point at the path up to the church. By the way, cream teas are in the Evelyn hall just by the drop off point.
The field is bumpy, but it is a community sports field so not too bumpy!
The path to the church is shingle after the lychgate into the churchyard.
The image below shows the tarmac path and drop off point.
Blue badge holder parking
Designated parking for blue badge holders is in the car park a short distance from the drop off point ie by the church and opposite the Abinger Hatch. There should be signs to it. This is a small car park so please use the other car parks if you can walk that distance [see maps below for distances]. Many thanks.
Blue badge parking in the main car parks
There is also car parking for Blue badge holders in the 2 main car parks if someone is dropping you and they can walk that far. The areas closest to the fair within those parking fields are reserved for Blue badge holders who can walk that far or have someone dropping them off. Please show your blue badge to the car park attendants. See the parking page for an idea of the distance and the information below.
The Abinger lane car park is just under 0.2 miles to the drop off point [according to walking with google maps]. Much nearer if you go onto the green at the corner of Sutton Lane and Abinger Lane.
The Sutton lane car park is nearer to the fair but the short way into the green is rough and steep: link to photo of way onto field. Walk to the corner of Sutton Lane and Abinger Lane for a smoother entrance.
Please contact the Secretary to the Fair Committee for further details.
Paths into the church
You can listen to Timeline choir and an organ recital in St James’ church. There are several ways to get into the church. The easiest is to use the tarmac path from the road to the lychgate. Then use the gravel path into the main entrance of the church. The gravel can be hard work if in a wheelchair!
There is a step into the church but there is a ramp that can be put down to make this level access.
Getting from the green into the church
The least bumpy route is to head across the green to the tarmac path leading up to the church from the road [opposite the pub]. Then go through the lychgate and take the gravel path into the church. See the field layout map below.
There is a bumpy path through the graveyard if you are up by the children’s playground (red on the map). That is very uneven path. So you may prefer to take the grass route to the lychgate (green on the map).
This map details the routes into the church.
